MYER is looking for a Senior Tax Manager to lead the tax function at Myer by providing technical advice on Myer’s business operations, identifying and addressing key tax risks and opportunities to ensure tax implications are considered in key management decision making, and ensuring all tax obligations are met. Where relevant, the Senior Tax Manager proactively drives changes to achieve efficiency in workflow process within the Myer business.
About the role:
- Lead the tax function for the Myer Group
- Key contributor to the continuous improvement of finance outcomes, systems and processes
- Provide direction and training to direct reports and the wider business
- Advisory to internal businesses, as the key contact for all tax matters
- Provide tax accounting and compliance advice for accounting process issues, project work, tax adjustments, new products and transactions
- Build and manage relationship with, and service provision by, the Group’s external tax advisors and auditors, revenue and tax authorities, and other key stakeholders
- Preparation of responses to audit and revenue authority information requests, as required
- Identify tax risks and/or opportunities and proactively drive changes to improve the workflow process with affected stakeholder to achieve efficiency and cost savings
- Ensure the Myer Group is compliant with the relevant tax legislation in Australia and across all other countries where subsidiaries operate (China, HK, NZ, Singapore)
- Manage preparation and lodgement of Australian annual consolidated income tax return (including schedules), annual CbC Reporting package, and foreign tax filings (NZ, China, HK, Singapore)
- Ensure indirect tax reporting and compliance obligations are met, including activity statements, supplementary annual GST return, annual FBT return and RFBAs, annual withholding tax statements (dividend, interest & royalties), monthly payroll tax filings
- Improving internal processes to ensure the highest level of compliance
- Manage preparation of periodic statutory reporting requirements, including tax notes/balances and disclosures
- Manage and review monthly tax and tax advisory accruals, franking account balance, and forecasts and budgets
- Manage preparation of tax paper for the Board and the Audit and risk committee
- Manage and review monthly reconciliation of tax accounts (payroll tax, FBT, GST, withholding tax, income tax, current tax liability)
About you:
- 7+ years Australian experience in a corporate tax role, either in a large accounting firm (mid-tier or Big 4) or a large ASX corporate
- Post graduate qualification CA/CPA or Masters of Tax
- Strong knowledge of Tax Effect Accounting and preparation of Corporate Tax Returns
- Exposure to indirect taxes (preferred)
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Self-motivated, self-starter and proactive
- Professional and committed approach
- Passion for leading process improvement

- Ability to engage with all parts of the business and to make technical concepts accessible to all
