Reporting into the Group Tax Manager, the Tax Manager will support the Group Tax team in ensuring all tax compliance and reporting obligations of Myer Group are met. The role is responsible for managing tax compliance, identifying and managing key tax risks and ensuring tax implications are considered in management decision making.  Where relevant, the Tax Manager proactively drives improvements in tax processes to achieve workflow efficiency across the Myer business.

About the role:

  • Ensure Myer Group is compliant with the relevant tax legislation in Australia and in overseas jurisdictions where subsidiaries are established (China, HK, NZ)
  • Prepare the annual consolidated Myer Income Tax return, including supporting schedules
  • Oversee preparation and lodgement of foreign tax filings (China, HK, NZ)
  • Prepare CBC reporting package, Australian local file and support the Group’s readiness for global tax reporting and transparency obligations
  • Ensure all indirect tax reporting and compliance obligations are met including accurate preparation and timely lodgement of activity statements, supplementary GST annual return, annual FBT return and RFBAs, annual withholding tax statement (dividend, interest & royalties), monthly payroll tax filings
  • Assist the Group Tax Manager in managing tax authority reviews and audits, including preparing accurate and timely responses to relevant regulator queries
  • Identify potential tax risks and contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of the Group’s tax risk management framework
  • Drive continuous improvement of internal processes to ensure the highest level of compliance
  • Provide tax advice to Finance teams and the broader business on accounting processes, new products transactions, projects and strategic initiatives and respond to adhoc queries from other divisions of SSO, stores and subsidiaries
  • Proactively identify tax risks/opportunities and lead improvements and automation initiatives within tax workflows to deliver efficiencies and cost savings
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and half yearly group reporting requirements, including maintenance of franking account, tax payments, tax notes/balances and disclosures, preparation of forecasts and budgets
  • Assist in preparing tax paper for the Board and the Audit and risk committee
  • Prepare monthly reconciliation of tax accounts (payroll tax, FBT, GST, withholding tax, income tax, current tax liability)
  • Build positive relationships with external tax advisors and auditors, revenue authorities and other key stakeholders

About you:

  • 5+ years Australian tax experience in a corporate tax role, either in a large accounting firm or a large corporate
  • Post graduate qualification CA/CPA or Masters of Tax
  • Strong knowledge of Tax Effect Accounting and preparation of Corporate Tax Returns
  • Exposure to indirect taxes
  • Tech savvy, with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Self-motivated, self-starter and proactive
